Historical Documentation
The professional heavy infantry of the Roman empire, it can be argued that there was no finer fighting force in history, based on the sheer amount of territory they conquered and time in which it remained in Rome’s possession. More than just soldiers, they built roads and bridges and administered an empire. Commonly equipped with helmet, armour, shield, a pack and provisions, they carried javelins, a gladius sword and dagger into battle. This relatively simple and standardised equipment, combined with their excellent training, made them fierce opponents. Roman Legionaries feared failure and disgrace more than the spears of their foes.
Temporal Log
The long-held belief in the superiority of Roman legionnaires was shattered by the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. Three legions were pursuing the remnants of the Disciples of Eurayle into the wilds. What they did not realise was that Eurayle and her consort Achilles were among their foes. Against the immortal sister and her enslaved lover, they stood no chance. Achilles, peerless as a combatant and Eurayle, slayed an entire legion by themselves. With their ranks in disarray, the legionnaires fell back to the banks of the Rhine, only for a harsh winter storm and swollen river to take more lives as they retreated.
